WHITTIER DISTRICT CROSS- FUNCTIONAL TEAM

SANTA FE SPRINGS YARD

 

Recently a CFT (Cross Functional Team) was created in the Whittier District. Cross functional teams are a partnership between Verizon and CWA to address and resolve issues within a specific district/department.  The members of the Whittier CFT have gotten together and brought several issues to the table for resolve.

 

At present the team has worked with the department leaders on several issues including Time in Title, keeping techs working in their zones, assigning parking for all company vehicles and getting company intranet access at the CWA Local so they can better support their members. Several victories have already been achieved by the CFT; it has been agreed to reduce the hold time from 2 years to 1 year for techs desiring to transfer from a Tech III position to a Tech II position within the same yard, pending approval of the bargaining committee.  The team is also working with DRC Dispatch in identifying and adjusting the number of techs needed in each zone; keeping techs in their zones as much as possible to reduce travel time.  We have also recently been able to get intranet access for CWA Local 9586.  The issue of assigning parking for every company vehicle in Santa Fe Springs Yard is ongoing.
