Safety Alert

In spite of the Unions many objections and concerns Verizon is hiring Contractors to work the copper and fiber network in our local’s jurisdiction. I have objected as a Local president and as a member of the bargaining committee for California. The jobs of the future (Fiber/FIOS) were promised to the incumbent workers that helped build this company. Verizon has not only hired but trained contractors to be fiber technicians and sent them to our Lakewood yard. In Santa Fe Springs Yard the company is bringing in copper Contractors to do orders and repair instead of hiring Term employees to backfill as promised or allowing existing workers to bid for these openings. These moves by the company are not only a slap in the face to the Union and employees but a safety concern to all including the customers.
