Dear
Local President,
The time has come again for the awarding of Council
sponsored scholarships. This year, we will be awarding three (3) scholarships
to the George Meany Center
for Labor Studies, and two (2) to the Western
Summer Institute for Union Women.
The S.C.C. Education Committee
has established criteria for the fair and consistent awarding of these scholarships.
The priority is as follows: George
Meany Center for Labor Studies: First priority - Individuals who are currently
enrolled in the Meany Center's degree program, Second priority - Those individuals
who are enrolled in a Labor Studies degree program at another institution (i.e.
Community College, Trade school etc...), Third priority - All others. Please
discuss these criteria with those in your Local who wish to submit applications,
so that we may avoid misunderstandings.
Enclosed is an application
for each of the scholarships, please feel free to duplicate and provide to those
in your Local who may be interested. The S.C.C. Education Committee will choose
the recipients of these scholarships at our regular monthly meeting on May 19,
2004. Remember, any additional expenses beyond the scholarship must be borne by
the applicant's Local or the individual themselves. Please mail completed applications
to S.C.C. Education Committee, c/o CWA Local 9505, 3820 E. Colorado Blvd, Pasadena,
CA 91107.
Applications
must be received by May 14, 2004 to be considered.
In
Solidarity,
Marcia
